The girls have been cleaning out the rest of the garden. They took two loads of tomatoes into the elementary school last week to hand out to the staff. I think there were close to 75 tomatoes total, with another 35 going in tomorrow. We also got some good broccoli out of the garden, and some green beans. The lettuce didn't do that well, and the potatoes were a bust. Since we planted tomatoes so late, we are the talk of the school with having fresh produce this late in the season!
Shankel Farms is harvesting corn just east of us. It looks like it is going to be a pretty good harvest. The beans are still growing and are pretty green in spots. There is also a lot of green corn out there, probably because of delays in planting.
Thumper, our yearling POA gelding, ran though a pine tree this week. It was about 3 foot tall and it cut him on his chest. He had about 15 stitches, and he's still pretty uncomfortable. I dug the tree up and torn out three others from the pasture. Horses are a lot like kids - if there is something out there to hurt them, they'll find it!
I've started posting articles on the website for the Heyworth schools. It's pretty neat getting to work with the kids and staff. I'm hoping to be able to publish articles about all the good things going on in Heyworth.
October 5th through the 11th is Fire Prevention Week! Don't forget to check your smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and escape routes!!!
